NewsFeed Defenders Teaches News Literacy

October 03, 2018

It’s been 5 years since iCivics launched a completely new game!

iCivics is excited to announce the launch of NewsFeed Defenders, an online news literacy game created in partnership with Annenberg Public Policy Center (FactCheck.org). In an era where most citizens gain their news online and on social media, the pervasive spreading of misinformation as news weakens our democracy. This 21st-century problem requires an innovative solution that challenges people to learn news literacy skills while understanding their place as agents of factual information.

NewsFeed Defenders invites players to tackle this 21st-century problem head-on. In NewsFeed Defenders, high school and adult players navigate online content by moderating a social news platform, Newsably. Players are charged with attracting new readers to the site while also fighting against clickbait, viral deception, and flagrant bias.
