Redefy is a social justice organization, by teenagers for teenagres, whose mission is to boldly defy stereotypes, embrace acceptance and tolerance, refine our perspectives positively, and create an active community. We work through both social media and our various chapters around the U.S. and around the world to accomplish these goals. On social media and on our website, we share stories of those who have faced discrimination or battled with stereotypes. Our stories on social media allow this generation’s youth to better understand the struggles their peers encounter on a daily basis. Since our founding, we have amassed over 3,200 likes on our Facebook page (, 120,000 hits on our website, and over 1,000 followers on Twitter.

As an organization, we have received recognition for our work from MTV, PBS, President Obama, and other notable sources. In addition to sharing uplifting stories and graphics on social media and on our website, we also create resources—typically lesson plans—for schools, clubs, and chapters around the world to use to educate kids of all ages on the destructive and harmful nature of stereotypes and discrimination of all types. These lesson plans focus on topics ranging from feminism to racial equality to LGBTQ+ rights.  To be an Ashoka Changemaker means to be ever striving to improve society—and, most importantly, society’s understanding of each other.

With our $1,000 seed funding, we would first expand our resource creation efforts to target more communities both is the US and around the world. we would also hold events that focus on defeating stereotypes and discrimination. Over a year ago, we held an event, the #GenerationOfNow, dedicated to defeating hate and advancing racial justice. With the $1,000 seed funding, we will hold similar events on topics such as gender equality and LGBTQ+ rights in a multitude of communities to inspire and educate more teenagers to live a life of activism and fight hate.
