The High School version of County Solutions introduces flexibility and autonomy for students who are ready for more independence in their work. Students choose their own issues (although the unit can be adapted for group or whole-class work) and are expected to spend some time outside of class working on the project. In this 10-step lesson series, students learn and practice research, analysis, and advocacy skills as they strategize and develop a plan to “move the needle” on their chosen issue. Lesson activities offer reinforcement activities and flexible templates students use for research and plan development. Students examine the broad context of their issues—including the role of county and other levels of government—and focus on bringing about local change using strategies tailored to their individual issues.
