iCivics Lessons Optimized for Student-Led Learning on Nearpod

August 24, 2020

Our partners at Nearpod offer a feature that allows lessons to be launched in student-paced mode—this feature has become especially useful as teachers are planning lessons for remote or hybrid classrooms. The solution is perfect for educators who may need to transition between in-person and remote learning during the upcoming school year.

How Student-Paced Mode Works:

Just like with a live lesson, students can enter a code on Nearpod (accessible right on the homepage!), but rather than the teacher leading, students pace themselves through the lesson. Here is a helpful tutorial video demonstrating the process

Teachers can use this feature to simplify differentiation, facilitate choice, or assign Nearpod lessons to students at home. Teachers can also monitor and analyze progress of student-paced lessons via their own login to ensure lesson completion.

How to Leverage This Feature for Remote Learning:

Nearpod is optimizing lessons for student-paced mode specifically by replacing certain activities and adding opportunities for students to send responses digitally. Be sure to explore new collaborative activities and formative assessments like Virtual Reality, Polls, Collaborate Boards, and game-based quizzes available on the platform.

The student-paced feature, which is now available for all Nearpod users, can be used in a variety of ways. Here is a great blog sharing 6 Genius Ways to use Student-Paced Nearpod Lessons to learn how to maximize this feature.
