TESOL Recognizes iCivics with 2019 Presidents’ Award

April 11, 2019

iCivics is deeply honored to be recognized by TESOL International Association, a global community of English language teaching professionals, with its 2019 Presidents’ Award.

Honorees of this prestigious award demonstrate a commitment to English language instruction and education. iCivics recently launched its English Language Learner [ELL] initiative, with the goal of adapting all of its games and resources for our nation’s 4.8 million ELL students to make civic education accessible to English learners while improving their language skills.

To date, under the guidance of our ELL Advisory Board, iCivics has upgraded two of its most popular games, Do I Have a Right?/ ¿Tengo Algún Derecho?, which teaches students about constitutional law, and Immigration Nation/Nación de Inmigración, which introduces students to the paths to US citizenship. We will be adapting and upgrading our popular game Win the White House, as well as produce a new voting game, in time for the 2020 election.

Said TESOL President Luciana C. de Oliveira (pictured here with iCivics ELL Coordinator Kristen Chapron), “iCivics’ commitment to empowering English learners through civic education is inspiring. TESOL is privileged to present iCivics with this honor in recognition of their collective hard work and dedication.”
