Fast Forward Women Leadership Forum

September 22, 2016

Saturday, September 17th, 2016, 500 people attended the  FastForward Women's Leadership Forum, co-hosted by iCivics and Seneca Women at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. It was an evening of amazing conversations about women, power, and purpose, featuring remarks from fashion icon and philanthropist, Diane von Furstenberg, as well as Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Executive Director of U.N. Women.

Former Dean of Cornell Law School and law clerk to Sandra Day O’Connor, Stewart Schwab highlighted iCivics. He applauded Justice O'Connor for using her power for the purpose of teaching young people about our democracy by founding iCivics.  As a result of her efforts, iCivics now serves millions of students every year.

This event marked a milestone in the life of iCivics. Associate Justice Sonia Sotomayor (U.S. Supreme Court) joined the iCivics board of governance last year.  Walking through the large crowd, Justice Sotomayor spoke of her personal commitment to civic education that began when she was a girl engrossed by the TV show Perry Mason.  The Justice's remarks were the highlight of the evening, especially when she said, "All of law and all of politics is done by people. Civic education teaches people how to regulate relationships in our society, manage conflict and make change."
