Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Her parents, both Jewish immigrants, were not able to go to college but they taught her to love learning and to work hard. Her mother died right before Justice Ginsburg graduated from high school, and she paid for her schooling with scholarships and money her mother had saved. When Justice Ginsburg became a lawyer, many people did not want to hire a woman lawyer. Justice Ginsburg became a Supreme Court Justice on August 10th, 1993.
