About Project

After noticing his school’s littering problem in 2008, Charles Orgbon started Greening Forward, a grassroots environmental not-for-profit.  Today, the program has grown from merely a website into a dynamic organization with programs rooted in over 30 communities.  Greening Forward has empowered young people across the world to recycle ten tons of waste, plant 30 trees, and conserve 86,000 gallons of water.  Through Greening Forward's Earth Savers Club Program, young people receive funding for their environmental projects, share ideas with other changemakers, and are trained in a comprehensive problem-solving curricula. 

 

Project Reward

Award money will be used to send Earth Savers Club students to the National Youth Leadership Council's National Service-Learning Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota this spring.  NYLC offers the most comprehensive service-learning professional development opportunity in the world with one of largest gatherings of youth and practitioners involved in the service-learning movement.

Another Thought

Hi again,

I thought of another issue last night. If a person is freezing to death then they are going to cut down a tree for firewood. If you need to support your starving family you can find a job toiling at a coal mine. Based on the instinctual drive to survive, people aren't going to care about their carbon footprint if they are already dying of disease. People won't use alternitive energy sources to save their lives in a civil war. You can save a tree, but if you don't help the people cutting them down you'll get nowhere. Ozone depletion is a worry for what MIGHT happen in the FUTURE. Starvation and sickness ARE happening NOW.

Save the Earth!

Tomorrow 8,000 children will die from starvation. A mother somewhere is going without food so her child can eat. I dont think the whole earth is going to melt or explode or wither tomorrow. If you want to save the planet save the people in it. 20,600 people have died from malnutrition today. How many have died of ozone depletion or climate change? You can replant a tree but you can't bring back a human life. If you can go to a third world country and watch the light leave a hungry child's eyes while their family sobs at their death and say " This is less important than than destruction of fishing stocks," then keep giving to Greening Forward. But in my opinion saving the earth means  saving people with families and feelings and personalities because THEY make this earth beautiful.

May I ask where you got those statistics?  I highly doubt that 20,600 people died from malnutrition today, and even though what you are saying is somewhat true...you catch more flies with honey than vinegar, so don't call me a terrible person for donating to a good cause.  Of course no one would look a dying child in the eyes and say it is MORE important to save fishing stocks.  But I don't see you complaining about the math project that actually won.  How does math prevent the deaths of people in third world countries?  It doesn't, but that doesn't make it a bad idea, or not worth donating the points.  I can tell you have good intentions, we all do.  So does this innocent kid who saw litter at his school.  So he wants to keep the Earth clean because it's the only planet we have.  Does that make him a terrible person?  Does that make him a hater of humanity?

I don't think so.

And if you think so, then honey, you're crazy.
